The Cloth That Changed the World: India’s Painted and Printed Cottons

This ROM-original exhibition showcases the Museum’s collection of Indian chintz — one of only two of the world’s finest. A fresh, non-Eurocentric approach explores India’s world-changing contributions to the arts, science, fashion and design via historic and contemporary textiles and fashions spanning 1,000 years and four continents. Featuring approximately 110 historic and contemporary textiles and fashions — such as large hanging textiles, smaller textiles, Western and non-Western costumes, archaeological fragments, wooden printing blocks and archival books — the ROM’s iteration takes the story of Indian Chintz into the 21st century based on our research and curatorial expertise.

Please note that the ROM is closed until April 5th.  Check the website for updates.
