The Music and Sounds of Persia
Recent immigrants to Canada, Padideh Ahrarnejad & Ali Massoudi have over 25 years of experience as professional musicians and educators in their native Iran. Padideh Ahrarnejad plays and teaches Tar, a plucked-string instrument central to Persian music. She is a graduate of the Tehran Art Music School and the Art University of Tehran, and was a member of the Iran National Music Orchestra and the Radio and Television Orchestra for 10 years. Ali Massoudi performs on a wide variety of percussion instruments. He as performed with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in addition to numerous performances in Iran, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Their program of Persian music is based on the traditional Radif. A variety of musical forms will be explored, including Pish Daramad, Reng, Tasnif and Chahar Mezrab.
