Yorkville Village,, is proud to announce a world-class art and fashion exhibition curated around surrealist master Salvador Dalí’s transcendent influence on the world of fashion. Open to the public inside the shopping centre from September 7 – 30, Dalí x Yorkville Village is the first of its kind to come to Canada.
Featuring a curated selection of fashion-focused works by Salvador Dalí and six designer dresses inspired by the surrealist icon, including Franco Moschino’s whimsical T-shirt dress that pays homage to Dalí’s signature stylized moustache, the exhibit shines the spotlight on this great artist of the 20th century and his influence on the world of fashion. Known for his avant-garde works of art, like his 1931 emblematic painting of melting clocks in a landscape setting titled The Persistence of Memory, the late Spanish artist (he passed away in 1989 at age 84) often collaborated with fashion designers such as Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli during the 1930s. With approximately 30 pieces on display, the collection of Dalí sculptures, including Woman Aflame (1980), Homage to Fashion (1971) and Dalinian Dancer (1949) brings surrealism on a global scale to Yorkville Village. An assortment of Dalí’s lithographs and paintings will also be presented in this world-class art exhibition.
